2024 has been marked by the publication of a new collection of music for church choirs by Richard Judson, a professional musician and composer and life-long member of our choir at Holy Trinity, Washington.
The collection includes 18 anthems, hymns, and canticles which cover most of the significant festivals of the church and which have, over the years, featured in our choir’s repertoire.
Some were composed for specific events and have dedications to members of our church family. All have appealing, singable melodies using comfortable ranges, simple, effective harmonies and most feature piano accompaniments.
The front cover of the beautiful book features the art-work of Rev. Cyril Lomax, former rector at Holy Trinity for 40 years, which appears on our organ screen. It depicts the scene from the Book of Daniel when three Hebrew exiles are thrown into the burning, fiery furnace and, around the sides of the picture there are the words of the Benedicite – the inspiration for one of the finest pieces in the collection.
The book has been published with the support of Holy Trinity, Washington and the Arts Council England. Anyone interested in seeing a copy is welcome to contact us at the church via email and we will forward the enquiry to Richard.
